Aetna Awarded $725,000 to Georgia Non-Profits

ALPHARETTA, Ga.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Aetna (NYSE: AET) and the Aetna Foundation in 2008 awarded community grants and sponsorships in Georgia totaling $725,000, with a particular focus on targeting diabetes and related conditions.

Among the community grants awarded were:

  • $100,000 to the 100 Black Men of Atlanta;
  • $75,000 to the Butler Street YMCA;
  • $50,000 to the American Diabetes Association;
  • $50,000 to the Association of Black Cardiologists;
  • $50,000 to CHOICES (Center Helping Obesity In Children End Successfully);
  • $50,000 to the Henry W. Grady System Foundation;
  • $50,000 to the National Coalition of 100 Black Women;
  • $50,000 to the King Center;
  • $47,975 to the Center for Puppetry Arts;
  • $40,000 to the Ryan Cameron Foundation;
  • $37,500 to the Henry W. Grady System Foundation;
  • $31,500 to Memorial Health University Medical Center;
  • $30,000 to Trumpet Awards Foundation;
  • $25,000 to the St. Joseph's Candler Foundation;
  • $20,000 to the Stewart Foundation;
  • $20,000 to the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency;
  • $17,500 to the American Diabetes Association;
  • $17,500 to the American Heart Association;
  • $10,000 to the Andrew and Walter Young Family YMCA;
  • $10,000 to Awake Inc.;
  • $10,000 to Good News Clinics;
  • $7,834 to Operation Correct Start;
  • $7,500 to March of Dimes (Southeast/East Central Georgia);
  • $5,000 to Special Olympics Georgia; and
  • $4,000 to the Foundation for Public Broadcasting in Georgia.

The $100,000 grant to 100 Black Men of Atlanta helped fund the "100 Health Challenge," through which the organization, in partnership with the National Center for Primary Care at Morehouse School of Medicine, works to mitigate health disparities in at-risk communities.

The majority of Aetna's other Georgia grants focused on programs that target diabetes, obesity and wellness initiatives.
