Obsidian Entertainment has big ambitions for Grounded 2's small world

Shortly after Grounded 2's reveal during the Xbox Games Showcase, I got to play the opening of the sequel. It's already showing some promise as the bigger and better sequel.


Obsidian Entertainment, known for its work on RPGs like Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, is expanding its horizons with the game Grounded, a survival game that has seen significant success since its early access launch in 2020. Grounded, which places players in a backyard environment shrunk down to the size of an ant, has not only attracted a large player base but also received positive feedback, leading to its full release in September 2022. The game's success has emboldened Obsidian to explore new genres and gameplay mechanics, with the studio expressing interest in developing more survival games and potentially integrating multiplayer elements into future projects. This shift represents a significant evolution for Obsidian, traditionally focused on narrative-driven RPGs, as it aims to leverage the success of Grounded to broaden its portfolio and appeal to a wider audience.
