'Mr. Baseball' Bob Uecker passes away at 90
- Bob Uecker was a famously mediocre Major League hitter who discovered that he was much more comfortable at a microphone than home plate. And that was just the start of a second career in entertainment that reached far beyond the ballpark.
Bob Uecker, the beloved Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster and former Major League Baseball player, passed away at the age of 90. Known for his humor and distinctive voice, Uecker had a storied career both on and off the field. He played as a catcher for several teams, including the Milwaukee Braves, but became more famous for his broadcasting work, where he entertained fans with his self-deprecating humor and memorable catchphrases like "Get up, baby, get up!" Uecker's contributions to baseball were recognized with numerous awards, including the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence. His legacy also includes his roles in television and film, most notably in the "Major League" movies, where he played the character Harry Doyle. Uecker's impact on baseball culture, his connection with fans, and his enduring presence in the Brewers' broadcast booth made him an iconic figure in the sport.
