  • The Golden Globes organization has decided to end its policy of paying a $75,000 annual salary to former Hollywood Foreign Press Association members who vote on the organization's annual film and TV honors.

The Golden Globe Awards, which have been a staple in Hollywood for recognizing excellence in film and television, are undergoing a significant transformation. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the organization behind the awards, has decided to dissolve following a series of controversies, including ethical lapses and a lack of diversity among its members. The awards' assets, including the trademark and intellectual property, have been sold to Eldridge Industries and Dick Clark Productions for $75 million. This sale aims to establish the Golden Globes as a for-profit enterprise, with plans to expand its reach and inclusivity. The 81st Golden Globe Awards, set for January 7, 2024, will be the first under this new structure, promising a revamped voting body and a broader, more diverse membership.
