An art gallery destroyed in the Palisades Fire finds its next chapter

  • With some four decades of experience, Lurie has seen his shares of ups and downs in running a gallery space. He left New York after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In Los Angeles, the gallery was in Culver City before moving to the Palisades after the pandemic.

The Palisades Fire in 2021 devastated the Palisades Art Gallery in Palisades, New York, destroying much of its collection and the building itself. However, the gallery, which was a hub for local artists, has found a new beginning. The owners, the Palisades Free Library, have decided to rebuild and expand the gallery into a larger, more modern space. This new chapter includes plans for a 2,000-square-foot gallery, an outdoor sculpture garden, and a community room, aiming to not only restore but enhance the cultural offerings of the area. The project has garnered support from the community and beyond, with fundraising efforts underway to help realize this vision, reflecting a resilient spirit and a commitment to the arts in the face of adversity.
