A new professional soccer team, potentially named the San Diego FC, is in the works for San Diego, California. The initiative is being spearheaded by the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation and Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour, who have formed the San Diego ownership group. This group has been working on securing a stadium site, with Snapdragon Stadium at San Diego State University being a favored location. The addition of this team would mark the return of top-tier soccer to San Diego, following the departure of the San Diego Sockers in the 1990s. The project aims to not only bring professional soccer back to the city but also to foster community engagement and economic development through sports.
