Kelantan fines event organiser RM10,000 over belly dance violation

The Kelantan state government fined an event organizer RM10,000 for featuring a belly dance performance during a private function, which violated local entertainment laws. The event, held at a hotel in Kota Bharu, was raided by the Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIK) and the police. The fine was imposed under Section 19 of the Kelantan Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 2002, which prohibits performances deemed contrary to Islamic values. The organizer was also warned that future violations could lead to more severe penalties, including imprisonment. This incident underscores the strict enforcement of cultural and religious norms in Kelantan, where such performances are not aligned with the state's conservative Islamic policies.
