The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), in collaboration with De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila, unveiled the preliminary findings of a groundbreaking study titled "Habits and Preferences of Filipino Viewers of Local Films in Metro Manila.

The FDCP and De La Salle University conducted a study revealing insights into Filipino film viewership, highlighting that Filipinos prefer watching movies at home due to convenience, cost, and comfort. The study, which surveyed 1,500 participants, found that 70% of viewers choose home viewing over cinema visits, influenced by factors like the availability of streaming services, the impact of the global health crisis, and the desire for a more relaxed viewing experience. It also noted a significant interest in Filipino films, with 60% of respondents expressing a preference for local content, particularly genres like drama, romance, and comedy. However, the study pointed out challenges such as piracy, the need for better film promotion, and the importance of enhancing the cinema experience to draw audiences back to theaters. The findings suggest a need for the film industry to adapt to these changing viewing habits by improving content accessibility, quality, and marketing strategies.
