Bremen Girls Basketball On Verge of Historic Semi-State Final
Locale: UNITED STATES

BREMEN, IN - February 20, 2026 - The Bremen High School girls basketball team stands on the precipice of history, heading into Saturday's IHSAA semi-state final against top-ranked Indianapolis Tech. Their journey, however, isn't simply a story of this season's 23-4 record; it's a testament to perseverance, dedication, and a core group of seniors who rebuilt a program from the ground up. The Lions will face a formidable challenge at 7 p.m. at Logansport, but the team is radiating confidence fueled by years of shared experience and a relentless commitment to improvement.
This year's success isn't a sudden leap forward. It's the culmination of a four-year transformation led by seniors Anna Clauser, Maggie Raasch, Kenzie Christman, Ellie Yagley, and Brooke Herendeen. When this group entered Bremen High School as freshmen, the girls basketball program was struggling, finishing the season with a disappointing 5-17 record. Through consistent effort and a willingness to embrace a new vision, they steadily improved, posting a 9-14 record as sophomores and a promising 15-8 record as juniors. Now, they find themselves on the cusp of a state championship berth with a record of 23-4.
"They've laid the foundation for everything we've done," emphasizes Bremen coach Nathan Moore. "They bought into the program, and they've always prioritized the team's success above individual accolades. That's a rare quality, and it's been instrumental in our turnaround." Moore highlights the unique strengths each senior brings to the court, creating a well-rounded and formidable team.
Anna Clauser, a 5'9" guard, is the team's leading scorer, averaging an impressive 16.4 points per game. Her ability to create her own shot and drive to the basket makes her a constant threat to opposing defenses. Maggie Raasch, a 5'10" post player, dominates the boards, averaging 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds, providing a crucial inside presence. Kenzie Christman, the team's 5'6" floor general, expertly controls the pace of the game and distributes the ball effectively. Ellie Yagley, a 5'7" guard, provides an instant spark off the bench with her scoring ability, while Brooke Herendeen, at 5'4", is the team's lockdown defensive specialist.
But their impact extends beyond statistics. The seniors have fostered a culture of teamwork, trust, and mutual support. Their long-standing connection - many having played together since childhood - translates into seamless on-court chemistry.
"We've come a long way," says Clauser, reflecting on their journey. "It's been a lot of hard work, but it's been worth it." Raasch echoes this sentiment, adding, "We've been playing together since we were little. We know how each other plays and we trust each other implicitly." Christman highlights the bond within the senior class, stating, "We've always had each other's backs. We're a family."
This team dynamic isn't just beneficial on the court. It's also served as a powerful example for Bremen's younger players. Moore notes, "They've shown them what it takes to be successful, not just in basketball, but in life. They've truly embodied what it means to be a Bremen basketball player." The seniors are leaving a legacy that extends beyond wins and losses, shaping the future of the program.
The upcoming semi-state final against Indianapolis Tech represents the biggest challenge of the season. Tech enters the game with a 22-4 record and is ranked No. 1 in the state. However, the Bremen Lions are undeterred.
"We're going to go out there and play our best," Clauser confidently states. "We're going to leave everything on the court." Raasch reinforces this determination, saying, "We believe in ourselves. We know we can do it." Christman adds, "We're proud to be Bremen Lions, and we're excited to represent our community."
The game promises to be a thrilling contest, and regardless of the outcome, the Bremen Lions have already achieved something special. They've transformed a struggling program into a legitimate contender, and their story serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes and communities alike. The senior class's dedication and leadership have not only propelled the team to new heights but have also instilled a winning culture that will endure for years to come.
