Stephen King, the horror author whose books have sold hundreds of millions of copies, inspired classic films and disturbed untold nights of sleep, has long played another role closer to his home in Maine: local media magnate.

Stephen King, along with his wife Tabitha, has decided to shut down three radio stations in Maine that they have owned for over 30 years. The stations, WKIT-FM, WZON-AM, and WZLO-FM, will cease operations by the end of May 2024. The decision comes as part of a larger deal where the stations are being sold to Blueberry Broadcasting, LLC. King expressed his sadness over the closure, noting the personal significance of the stations, especially mentioning how his wife's voice was the first heard on WZON when it started broadcasting. The sale reflects broader trends in the radio industry, where local stations are increasingly being bought out by larger media conglomerates.
