Indian podcaster charged with obscenity can resume shows if moral standards met, top court says

India's top court allowed a podcaster charged with obscenity to resume airing his shows on the condition they met standards of "morality and decency", relaxing on Monday its previous order that the programme should stop until further notice.

The Indian Supreme Court has ruled that podcaster and YouTuber Kunal Kamra can resume his shows, which were previously halted due to charges of obscenity. The court's decision came with the condition that Kamra must adhere to "moral standards" in his content. This ruling follows a legal battle initiated after Kamra was charged under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act for allegedly posting obscene material online. The court emphasized the importance of balancing freedom of speech with the need to maintain public morality, suggesting that while creative expression is protected, it should not cross into the realm of obscenity or vulgarity. This case highlights the ongoing tension between freedom of expression and censorship in India's digital content landscape.
