Santa Monica's new 'entertainment zone' approved: What to know

The Santa Monica City Council has approved the creation of an entertainment zone in the downtown area, allowing for the closure of a two-block section of the Third Street Promenade to vehicular traffic on weekend evenings. This initiative, aimed at boosting local businesses and enhancing the pedestrian experience, will enable restaurants and bars to expand their outdoor seating and host live entertainment. The zone will operate from 5 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, starting in early 2024, and is part of a broader effort to revitalize the area and attract more visitors.
