A portion of the Salt Palace Convention could soon go to Smith Entertainment Group, as the future of downtown Salt Lake City outside of the Delta Center continues to take shape.

Salt Lake County is set to vote on whether to sell a portion of the Salt Palace Convention Center to Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) for $150 million, as reported by the Deseret News on April 29, 2025. SEG, which owns the Utah Jazz and is developing a new arena, aims to expand its downtown Salt Lake City holdings. The proposed sale includes a 1.5-acre plot currently used for parking and loading at the convention center. If approved, the deal would facilitate SEG's plans for a mixed-use development, potentially including residential, commercial, and entertainment spaces. The county council's decision is anticipated to have significant implications for the future development of the area.
