'Big economic event' Mahakumbh generates business of over Rs 3 lakh crores, says traders' association

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) estimates that the Mahakumbh, scheduled for January 14 to February 26, 2025, in Prayagraj, will generate business worth Rs 3 lakh crore. This economic activity is expected to span various sectors including hospitality, transportation, food, and retail, with around 40 crore people anticipated to visit. CAIT has urged traders to prepare for this influx by ensuring adequate stock and has called for government support in infrastructure development, such as improved road networks, parking facilities, and sanitation. Additionally, CAIT has proposed the establishment of a Mahakumbh Trade Facilitation Committee to coordinate with various stakeholders to enhance the trading environment during the event.
