From dangerous diet tips to disinformation, cyberbullying to hate speech, the glut of online content harmful to children grows every day.- EU investigations - It is currently investigating Meta's Facebook and Instagram, and TikTok under its mammoth content moderation law, the Digital Services Act (DSA), fearing the platforms are failing to do enough to prevent children accessing harmful content.

The European Union is advancing a proposal to enhance online safety for children by potentially restricting their access to social media and other digital services, as reported by Yahoo News. This initiative, part of a broader digital strategy, aims to protect minors from harmful content and excessive screen time. The proposal includes measures like age verification and the implementation of "age-appropriate" digital experiences. It has sparked a debate on balancing child safety with privacy and freedom of expression, with tech companies and civil liberties groups expressing concerns over the feasibility and implications of such regulations. The European Commission is set to finalize these rules by the end of 2023, with the goal of creating a safer digital environment for young users across the EU.
