The rapper Drake has sued Universal Music Group for defamation, alleging the music empire of promoting a diss track against him last spring.

Drake has initiated legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) over Kendrick Lamar's track "Not Like Us," which was released in May 2024. The lawsuit claims that UMG failed to prevent the distribution of the song, which Drake alleges contains defamatory lyrics aimed at him. The track, part of an ongoing feud between Drake and Lamar, has been a significant commercial success, amassing over 50 million streams on Spotify. Drake's legal team argues that UMG, as the distributor, had a responsibility to ensure the content did not include potentially libelous material. The lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction to halt further distribution of the song until the disputed lyrics are removed or altered. This legal battle adds another layer to the high-profile rivalry between the two artists, spotlighting issues of responsibility and content control in the music industry.
