HYBE has sold its remaining 9.38% stake in rival K-pop powerhouse SM Entertainment to Tencent Music Entertainment for approximately $177 million.
HYBE, the South Korean entertainment company behind BTS, has sold its remaining 15.8% stake in rival K-pop agency SM Entertainment for approximately $177 million, marking the end of its involvement with SM. The sale was executed through a block deal on the open market, with the shares sold at 150,000 won each, totaling 3.8 million shares. This move comes after HYBE had previously reduced its stake in SM from 16.8% to 15.8% in October. The decision to divest completely from SM is part of HYBE's strategy to focus on its core business and enhance shareholder value, amidst ongoing competition and shifts in the K-pop industry landscape.
