French media companies, including TF1, France TV and BFM TV, are suing Facebook owner Meta over what they say are unlawful business practices, law firms representing them said. In the latest in a series of European legal actions against Meta, the lawsuit was filed on Wednesday before the Paris business tribunal court by a group of 67 companies representing 200 publications. They allege Meta's market dominance in the digital advertising sector was predominantly based on illegal practices, including the large-scale collection of personal data and its use for targeted advertising.

French media companies, including Le Figaro and Le Monde, have filed a lawsuit against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, alleging that the tech giant has failed to comply with a 2019 French law requiring digital platforms to negotiate fair payment with news publishers for the use of their content. The lawsuit, lodged with the Paris judicial court, claims that Meta has not engaged in good faith negotiations and has not provided a satisfactory response to the publishers' demands for compensation. This legal action follows a similar lawsuit filed by French media companies against Google, which resulted in a settlement in which Google agreed to pay French publishers for the use of their content.
