The Supreme Court of India declined to entertain a new petition challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2013, as a similar case is already under consideration by a three-judge bench. The bench, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, advised the petitioners to present their arguments in the ongoing case. The petition, filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, argued that the Act infringes on the rights of non-Muslims and violates secularism by granting special status to the Waqf Board. The court's decision to not hear the fresh plea was based on the principle of avoiding duplication of judicial proceedings.
