Nine people died when "sudden strong winds" capsized four tourist boats and plunged 84 people into the water in Southwestern China, state media reported on Monday. The search was ongoing for one person who was still missing while 74 others had been rescued in Guizhou province, the Xinhua News Agency said. Nearly 500 rescue workers were mobilised to deal with the accident as Chinese President Xi Jinping instructed provincial authorities to "do everything possible", Xinhua said.

On March 1, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, where nine people, including a local guide and eight tourists from Germany, Spain, and France, lost their lives after four tourist boats capsized. The boats were navigating the Xudum River when they were reportedly hit by a strong current, leading to the overturning. Rescue operations were promptly initiated, and while some passengers were saved, the search continued for any additional missing individuals. The nationalities of the victims were confirmed as three from Germany, two from Spain, and three from France. This event has prompted an investigation into the safety measures and conditions of tourist boat operations in the area.
