  • "Through this capital and business alliance, we will become the largest shareholder of KADOKAWA, which consistently creates a wide variety of IP, including publications and books, such as light novels and comics, as well as games and anime," said Hiroki Totoki, president, COO and CFO of the Sony Group Corporation.
Sony has become the largest shareholder in Kadokawa Corporation, the owner of FromSoftware, known for popular games like "Elden Ring" and "Dark Souls." This strategic investment was made through Sony's financial arm, Sony Financial Group, which purchased a 6.24 percent stake in Kadokawa for approximately $619 million. The move aims to strengthen Sony's position in the anime and gaming industries, aligning with its broader strategy to expand its entertainment offerings. This acquisition not only enhances Sony's content creation capabilities but also potentially fosters collaborations between Sony's various entertainment divisions and Kadokawa's extensive portfolio in anime, manga, and video games.
