The rebranding, aimed at emphasizing the company's focus on building the metaverse, inadvertently led to an increase in low-quality posts and pages exploiting the "Meta" name for visibility. These spam posts, often tagged with "Meta" or "Metaverse," ranged from irrelevant content to outright scams, taking advantage of the heightened interest and confusion surrounding the rebranding. Despite efforts to moderate and filter such content, the sheer volume of spam overwhelmed the platform's systems, highlighting the challenges social media companies face in managing content during significant corporate changes.
