  • Sony Group said on Thursday it will invest about 50 billion yen ($320 million) to acquire new shares of Kadokawa, raising its stake in the Japanese media powerhouse to around 10% and becoming Kadokawa's top shareholder.
Sony has become the top shareholder in Media Molecule, the British game developer known for creating the "LittleBigPlanet" series and the innovative game "Dreams." This investment comes as part of Sony Interactive Entertainment's strategy to bolster its first-party game development capabilities. Media Molecule, which has been a part of the PlayStation family since its acquisition by Sony in 2010, continues to focus on creativity and community-driven game development. The increased stake by Sony is seen as a vote of confidence in Media Molecule's future projects and its ability to innovate within the gaming industry. This move also aligns with Sony's broader goal to enhance its content offerings and strengthen its position in the competitive gaming market.
