In the Mangaluru lynching case, three individuals were booked by the police for spreading false information on social media, claiming that the victim, Mohammed Fazil, was involved in drug peddling and had connections with the Popular Front of India (PFI). The police clarified that these claims were baseless and that Fazil had no criminal record. The incident, which occurred on July 28, 2022, involved Fazil being chased and killed by a group of men in an SUV. The police have arrested 10 people in connection with the lynching and are continuing their investigation, emphasizing the need to curb the spread of fake news that can incite communal tensions.
